1. In a double boiler, melt shea butter and beeswax together. After oils are melted allow them to cool slightly.

2. While shea butter mixture is melting, combine jojoba or sweet almond, rose water, vitamin E oil and aloe gel in a large glass measuring cup. Warm up the liquid in a double boiler (this will help it combine with the oil mixture).

3. Using an immersion blender or hand mixer, blend the heated aloe mixture until it is completely mixed (it will turn a milky colour) and continue to blend while you stream in the melted shea butter mixture.

4. Blend until the cream becomes thick and fluffy.

5. Add the essential oils and mix until combined.

6. Using a spatula, transfer the cream into a large freezer bag or piping tube. Cut the tip of the bag off and pipe into sterilised jars. Seal the jars closed with lids and store cream in the refrigerator for up to one year.

7. Slather over face and enjoy the glorious natural scents.

Tips: Homemade products don’t last as long as store bought. Make sure to store cream in sanitised containers, keep it in the fridge (so it can last up to 1 year), and use a sanitized stick instead of dipping fingers to prolong shelf life. Beeswax, essential oils, and vitamin E act as preservatives.

DIY After Sun Spray

Today I went to a blending class for essential oils and I learn’t a bit more about essential oils. I made an after sun spray a memory blend and a blend for hay fever (all the aliments that I have), with the help of the lovely Sarah Barber who is my tutor on my journey of essential oils. So I will give you the recipes and links for the ingredients and if any of you decide to make the recipes I would love to hear all about your experiences with the essential oils and how they have helped you. Since I have incorporated essential oils into my life I feel really good about using less chemicals, lowering my waste by using reusable glass bottles instead of plastic and sourcing ingredients from an environmentally conscious company. Doterra products (where I get my essential oils from) practice Cō-Impact Sourcing which is an initiative that seeks to develop long-term, mutually beneficial supplier partnerships while creating sustainable jobs and providing reliable income in underdeveloped areas. Doterra is committed to the ethical treatment of its suppliers by providing on-time payments at fair prices. So this is the recipe for the After Sun Spray.

In a 50ml spray bottle add:

40ml aloe vera juice

2 teaspoons Doterra fractionated Coconut oil

1/4 teaspoons vitamine E (for preservation, is optional, I used vitamin E capsules)

1-2 drops Lavender oil

1-2 drops Melaleuca oil

1-2 drops Peppermint oil or Roman Chamomile

Tip: Shake before each use to incorporate all the ingredients. Spray onto skin as needed and enjoy the soothing benefits.

HEALING LOTION BAR

I have decided to put some of my favourite essential oils into a body lotion bar. As I am breaking away from plastic bottles and harsh chemicals I decided to make my very own body lotion bar. Now if you aren’t sure what this is, don’t worry because that is what it is. It is basically what the name says, it is a lotion in the form of a bar. Not only does is not have no plastic bottle, it also has no harsh chemicals and I have added some essential oils to give it a good boost. The Rosemary essential oil and lavender essential oil are great for the nervous system, the melaleuca acts as an antiseptic and I have added On Guard which is a blended essential oil that is great for immune support. Now this is really easy to make and I really hope some of you try my recipe out.

For the recipe you will need:

30ml Bees wax

30ml Jojoba or Sweet Almond oil (or a blend of the two)

30ml Shea butter

3 drops Rosemary essential oil

4 drops Melaleuca oil

4drops Lavender essential oil

3 drops On Guard blended essential oil

In a bowl melt the Jojoba or the Sweet Almond oil, Shea butter and Bees wax in the microwave or in a double boiler till melted, then stir and add the essential oils of your choice and place into silicon moulds or a lined container. Set aside until the bar has hardened. If you want to rush the setting time then just place it in the fridge.
